I was overwhelmed with feelings of sadness and loss on July 3, 2009, and became aware of the reasons three days later when I was notified that my son had been taken. You see, one day before a scheduled visitation and custody hearing, my ex-wife fled to the Middle East with my only child, Gideon, in lieu of attending the hearing. Not only did she intentionally evade the court date, she also saw fit to get re-married, choosing to wed a registered sex offender and force my son to live in the war-torn country of Israel with a convicted felon who sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl.

On October 5, 2007, my Mighty Warrior (Judges 6:12), Gideon Hook, was God-gifted to me and my ex-wife. Always living-up to the “Warrior” calling of his name, he could never have known what his life would entail or the struggles his father would go through to spend time with him. Gideon would have no idea the joy that arose in my soul when, after he fought sleep all night long with his mother, we would rest, father and son, chest-to-chest, during the early morning hours that I comforted him.

The times when he would hear my voice on the phone and speed crawl through the house calling for “Da Da” are now a far cry away. I did not even have the chance to say good-bye to the tugs on the goatee or the slobbery kisses and bongo drumming on my head as we walked, with him atop Daddy's shoulders. There are no more pecans to crack and share with my Warrior and our puppy dogs, no more chasing cotton tails and birds in the park, no more of those great moments of bonding with such a bright and vibrant child.

On July 7, the day after I discovered my ex-wife fled to Israel with my son, I was awarded full custody of Gideon. Since the hearing in July, I have been filing actions with the State Department through the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. This is a very long, emotionally-tolling, financially-taxing road to walk...worth every penny as I fight for Gideon's safe return home. With your help, I will be reunited with my Mighty Warrior once again. God Bless, Jason.
